No Funds for the YMCA

The City Council should transfer the funding for the YMCA in the 2008 budget to the Parks and Recreation Department.

No Funds for the YMCA
The City Council has passed a resolution to enter into an agreement authorizing the City to pay $200,000 per year for ten years for capitol funds and to manage the City’s swimming pools.  With reference to managing the pools, no existing capabilities proof was requested, no business plan was required.  Only promises are noted in the agreement, with no time frames for the fulfillment of those promises and no penalties for not meeting them.
The Parks and Recreation Department has the experience, the infrastructure, and the people to manage and run the pools.  All they need is an appropriate budget and they could supply the promises outlined in the Y agreement.  Once the existing management organization is disbanded it would be very difficult to re-establish it.
The 2008 Budget has not been passed, so this issue is not a done deal.
If you are against the Y agreement,  are you willing to fight for having the amount budgeted for the Y transferred into the Parks and Recreation budget?
Send an e-mail to each City Council member prior to November 15th or attend the November 19th City Council meeting:
