(Pueblo, CO) – According to recent reports, the state of Colorado has the second highest foreclosure rate in the country. Pueblo County reflects this high foreclosure rate, with more foreclosures filed than new homes built. Help is on the way for families as they try to avoid the pitfalls that often go hand-in-hand with high foreclosure rates.
NeighborWorks® of Pueblo, the Pueblo’s District Attorney, the State Attorney General, the Public Trustee, local counseling agencies, and reputable lenders are teaming up to provide quarterly public meetings that will reach out to families who are in danger of losing their home to foreclosure or who are considering refinancing.
What can prospective homeowners do to protect themselves against unscrupulous lending practices? Who can they turn to for unbiased, consumer-friendly information? This series of public meetings will help families before they make an uninformed financial decision. Resources are available for families who are in the midst of the foreclosure process. From this public meeting, Pueblo’s non-profits and counseling agencies will institute a coordinated system to allow homeowners to connect with appropriate foreclosure prevention counseling programs and agencies. The meeting will also provide in-depth information to help prospective homeowners make informed decisions.
The first in the series of public meetings will be held on Saturday, March 4th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Pueblo Convention Center located at 320 Central Main Street. The public is encouraged to attend this free informational workshop. Se habla español and sign language interpretation upon request.
