Public Transit Planning Open Houses
Public meetings to improve how we get around in Pueblo.
There is going to be a series of public input meetings on our city transit system, i.e., bus service in Pueblo.
I know a lot of us don’t think too much of the bus system in town. Mostly because we drive cars wherever we want to go. However, there are LOTS of people who cannot drive cars; either because they don’t have one or have a disability that prevents them from driving. These people need a good bus service to help them enjoy this great city. And we need to speak up for them. Besides, if gasoline gets up to $8 per gallon, I think a lot of us are going to start seriously considering using public transportation to get to a lot of places ourselves.

The Pueblo Area Council of Governments (PACOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (federal designation) and Transportation Planning Region (state designation) for the Pueblo County region. The PACOG MPO/TPR is beginning work on the first draft of the Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan and will be holding a series of Public Meeting & Open Houses to receive public input from all
interested parties regarding the development of the Coordinated Plan.
The coordinated transportation plan identifies the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities, older adults, and people with low incomes, provides strategies for meeting those local needs, and
prioritizes transportation services for funding and implementation. The final version of the Coordinated Plan will be incorporated into the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan.
The Coordinated Plan will include strategies for better coordinating transit and human service transportation and help PACOG determine how future federal grants for human service transportation should be awarded. Transportation projects or services to be considered for federal funding under the Job Access & Reverse Commute (Sec. 5316), New Freedom Programs (Sec. 5317), and Elder Persons and Persons with Disability (Sec. 5310) must be derived from the Coordinated Plan in order to be eligible per requirements of SAFETEA-LU. Persons attending the meeting are encouraged to provide input into the new plan, potential human service transportation improvements, or raise other issues pertinent to social service transportation.
In Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Individuals Requiring Special Transportation, Access, or Communications Accommodations Should Notify the
PACOG MPO Office at Least 24 Hours Preceding the Meeting.
