The Honor Farm Project — Part 3
Additional thoughts on pretty pictures at the Public Forum.
As I recall hearing about it, some time back, e.g., the 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan, the idea of putting a road across the Honor Farm was about THAT….putting a road across the Honor Farm.
There were several options being considered. They were as follows:
[1] A route along the southern boundary of the Honor Farm.
[2] A route along the northern boundary of the Honor Farm.
[3] A route that ran through the Honor Farm and terminated at 24th Street.
[4] A route that ran through the Honor Farm and terminated at 29th Street.
I find it ‘interesting’ that only option 3, was offered by the group that presented the other evening. There were no options offered that dealt with any of the other possibliities.
However, more interesting was the fact that the focus of the evening was over how the Honor Farm was supposed to be divided up for use. This part for off road vehicles. Another part for some sort of nature thingie. Etc., etc., etc.
This caused the audience to focus on the land use and not on the routing.
Looked to me like a classic example of misdirection. The purpose of which, as most misdirection goes, was to get people to agree to a plan without realizing the full import of said agreement. [Note: We saw the same thing with the public forums over the widening of I-25, a couple of years ago. Lots of eye-candy and pie-in-the-sky ideas. But not much on the discussion of alternative plans or the benefits/consequences of adopting the proffered plans.]
Fortunately, some people there were determined to have alternate routes addressed. Not just how the cake would be divided.
We’ll see more about this. I’m certain of that.
