OHNO Meeting Minutes

April 3, 2007

I. Call to order at 6:30 PM by President Susan Pelto
  1. Introductions around the room.
II. Old Business
  1. Treasurer’s report - $377.20 in checking with at least one bill outstanding.
  2. Minutes from last meeting and board of directors’ meeting available on blog.
  3. OHNO is now incorporated as a non-profit organization.
III. New Business
  1. Susan requested a By-Laws Review committee be established
  2. Volunteers include Janet Dash, Susan Pelto, and Heather Norton.
  3. Review and amendments required by end of year.
IV. Announcements and Committee Reports
  A. Temple Emmanuel Rummage Sale on April 22.
  B. Clean Up Day – Saturday April 28 – 10 AM to 3 PM – yard waste only
    1. Roll-offs provided by Health Dept. will be located at east end of 20th street
    2. Block captains will deliver flyers to households
    3. Posters will be placed in strategic locations
    4. SRDA will make reminder phone calls
    5. Several trucks needed to pick up yard waste at seniors’ homes – contact
Carolyn Lowery if you can volunteer your truck and a couple of hours
  6. Folks with other types of waste will be sent to the landfill
    7. Hope to expand the project next year.
  A. Mineral Palace Park Solutions Team – Yolanda Butler reported
    1. Met Saturday March 31 in the park and began a conservation survey of all
structures/trees/roadways/flowers etc. with Mary Woodman’s guidance.
    2. Next meeting 7 PM Wednesday April 11 at Yolanda Butlers’
    3. Yolanda contacted Councilwoman Judy Weaver about park landscaping
money that might be available and suggested we each call her with same
request.
    4. In response to Pueblo Chieftain Article, several attendees expressed dismay at
the expenditure of city money to buy more parks rather than perform
necessary upkeep/maintenance on our existing parks.
    5. The Art Guild in Mineral Palace is organizing an Art in the Park event and
would like our input as well as that of the Lower Northside group.
  A. North Side Architecture Survey complete and will be available to public the week of
April 22.
    1. Homeowners with buildings in the report will receive their own copy in the mail.
    2. A Grant was approved for the next block to the north that includes about 100
structures. Will go out to bid and then survey may begin within a month.
  A. Code Enforcement – Heather Norton reported
    1. Frank Starginer asked how to report junked cars in alleys.
    2. Heather thinks the tag number, make, model, and location are required for her
to make a report
  A. Pueblo Neighborhood Partnership Meeting April 3 reported by Chuck and Susan
Pelto
    1. Leadership Training Classes the next three Saturdays from 9-3 at Neighbor
Works.
    2. City Wide recycling on April 12 – flyers provided.
  A. Communications Committee – Chuck Pelto reported
    1. There was some confusion about the Block Captain map in the email from
Chuck.
    2. A map will be posted with the newsletters on Pelto’s porch so block captains
can check off additional blocks they might deliver to.
    3. The minutes will be posted in the newsletter next time, if space is available.
Otherwise minutes will be posted in the Blog.
    4. Please submit photos to Chuck for the newsletter, especially Mineral Palace
Gardens photos for the next issue. Ted Freeman taking photos of tonight’s
meeting.
    5. Font will be reduced to 10 pt. to save space.
    6. Suggestion was made to reward businesses with good landscaping with photo
in newsletter and other items.
    7. Also suggestions to highlight homes in neighborhood with nice lawns/gardens
or that have been refurbished by posting photos and brief interviews with
owners.
    8. Newsletter cost 0.33 cents per copy for full color on 32 lb. paper. Board of
Directors needs to decide what final format will be. Many members
expressed concern about the cost and diminished funds.
    9. Need additional block captains.
  A. Traffic Committee – Tim Nawrocki and Steve Nawrocki reported
    1. They met with the city traffic engineer, Pepper Whitlif (sp?) and Dave
Cockrell, city planner, to discuss a range of topics.
    2. Traffic calming on 20th from Freed to Court as part of Safe Routes to School.
Will include narrowing of intersections, planters, possibly crosswalk
designations using decorative brickwork.
    3. Conversion of one-way streets to two-way is a long term change.
    4. The 19th and Court entrance to Mineral Palace discussed for calming.
    5. 15th may become one way westbound and 17th may be closed to traffic as part of Parkview Hospital expansion.
    6. Parking issues will be discussed in another meeting with the city.
  A. Membership – Angela Giron reported
    1. OHNO membership applications were sent around the room
    2. The cost is $10 for an annual membership but we’re not required to pay to be
a member. Please return forms to Angela.
    3. Donations always accepted on top of membership fees.
  A. Refreshments – please sign up to provide refreshments at future meetings.
  B. Next meeting will be June 5 at 6:30 PM.
V. Guest Speaker tonight is Ed Iniguez with the Pueblo Pioneer Cemetery.
VI. Adjourn meeting at 8:30 PM.
