Minutes of May General Meeting of OHNO
Jenny Kedward, Pueblo City-County Health Depatment, spoke to us about the potential for elevated radan levels in our homes. Committee reports were made.
Old Historic Northside Organization - General Membership Meeting
May 13, 2008, Yolanda Butler’s home, 321 W. 18th Street
I. Welcome/Introductions at 7:15 PM
A. Each attendee gave their name, address, and stated what they thought was a good way to meet the neighbors
B. Responses included: sitting on the porch, gardening out front, doing yard work, delivering the newsletter, just getting out and talking, common interests, walking around the neighborhood with dogs
II. Program – 7:30 to 7:45 PM
A. Jenny Kedward, Environmental Coordinator, Pueblo City-County Health Dept.
1. Ms. Kedward works with the Pueblo Cares Project (Margaret Barber, coordinator, spoke to us last year)
2. Pueblo has a higher than average risk for elevated radon levels
3. A radon fact sheet was passed out and radon test kits were distributed to those interested in using one
III. Treasurer’s Report – Lamar Trant
A. Balance as of 4-1-08 = $1,016.65
B. Membership dues and donations collected in April/May = $140
C. Printing of newsletter cost $51.55
D. Filing fee for OHNO registration with Colorado Sect. Of State = $10
E. Balance as of 5-13-08 = $1,105.10
IV. Minutes of last meeting – Janet Dash
A. Copies of minutes provided to members.
B. Minutes also posted on the Pueblog web site.
C. No comments or changes made to minutes
V. Committee Reports
A. Historic Preservation – Wade Broadhead, City of Pueblo
1. Only 13 of 35 homeowners have returned their opt-in form for the Historic District.
2. The deadline is mid July and the city has sent out 4 separate mailings reminding these people about their options.
3. Phase II survey is finished and in the mail – Adam Thomas may do a presentation about those results in June.
4. The East side neighborhood survey received a grant so they can begin the same process.
B. Mineral Palace Park – Yolanda Butler, chair
1. The Clean Up day poster was displayed to show all the different donors/sponsors for the event.
2. In all, twelve trees have been planted.
3. Another $250 has been donated after the event and the Mineral Palace Park Conservancy Association will buy more trees from Kenny G for planting in the fall
4. The flowerbed at the corner of 15th and Court has been adopted and members are welcome to meet on Thursday mornings to help weed.
5. Rich Zajac, Director of Parks, sent Yolanda a nice letter stating how great we were to work with, etc.
C. Action Committee – Ted Freeman, chair
1. Need people to work on a brochure for the neighborhood (Janet Dash volunteered)
2. The evening out is scheduled for Sunday June 22 from 2-4. Block captains will talk to neighbors and then meet at Angela’s house at 4 to discuss their results.
3. The organization needs t-shirts to identify themselves. OHNO will sponsor a logo contest to use for shirts and the newsletter.
D. Social/Events – Carolyn Lowry, chair
1. The yard waste collection on May 3 was very successful
2. The Block Party will be Sunday August 17 at Rosemount
E. Communications – Ted Freeman, chair
1. Block captains did a good job distributing over 500 newsletters
2. Tickets are available for the Rockies game on August 10. $40 includes entrance to the game and transportation. The bus leaves the northside K-Mart at 10 AM and returns around 6 PM.
F. Membership – Angela
1. We have 30 membership applications on file.
2. 25 members have paid dues for 2008
3. We can use SRDA to make any phone calls we need for events as long as they are non-profit
G. Traffic – Steve Nawrocki, co-chair with Tim Nawrocki
1. Nothing to report
VI. Old Business
A. Residents are wondering about the sidewalks with pink paint arrows, etc. The gas company is marking them for future work.
B. Parking across sidewalks is a big issue with some members. Janet Dash will print out a slip informing people about the city ordinance against parking across the sidewalk and asking them to please not do it.
VII. Announcements
A. Ted went to the leadership conference on Saturday and thought it was informative. He feels we need more neighborhood involvement to address all concerns, not just our small group’s.
