OHNO Feb. Board meeting

Dicussion of upcoming retreat

OHNO BOD Meeting
February 2, 2008
Giron/Nawrocki Residence, 1910 Court Street

Attendees: Angela Giron, President; Heather Norton, Programs; Carolyn Lowrey, Membership; Janet Dash, Secretary; Yolanda Butler, Vice President; Ted Freeman, Communications. Lamar Trant, Treasurer could not attend. Guests: Steve Nawrocki.

I. Call to Order at 1:10 PM.

II. Secretary’s Report: There was no Board meeting in January due to the holiday. Georgine Booms took minutes at the January general membership meeting because Janet was out of town. Those minutes will be emailed to board members and published in the newsletter.

III. Treasurer’s Report: Lamar reports that $135 was collected in dues bringing the current balance to $854.20.

IV. Old Business
A. The retreat is scheduled for Saturday Feb. 9 at the County Conference Room, 1001 Santa Fe from 9-2. Lunch will be provided for $5.00. David Cockrell will mediate. Several important topics for the retreat were mentioned and include: Mineral Palace Park, Zoning, Sidewalks, Walkable Neighborhoods, Fountain Creek Clean Up, and the Historic District.
B. Clarification on Board Meeting Dates. The first Tuesday of July and September may have potential conflicts with holiday travels and may be rescheduled. We will definitely reschedule Nov. 4 because it is Election Day.
C. The general meeting in January was fairly well attended. Some new faces were there. January is to be dues month but none were collected.
D. Questions were raised about PNP (Pueblo Neighborhood Partnership) activities. Chuck Pelto is president but we don’t get any feedback from their meetings. Do they have a secretary? Does anyone take notes? We would like more information about their activities and how we might partner with them.
E. The By Laws Committee needs to meet. The December deadline was missed for rewriting the by laws. Committee members include: Susan Pelto, Heather Norton and Janet Dash.

V. New Business
A. Clean up Day will be scheduled again this spring. It is held in conjunction with the free day at the landfill.
B. The Fundraising committee needs to be resurrected. Different ways to raise money were discussed such as a garage sale or selling ads in the newsletter (or having a newsletter ‘sponsored’ by a business, and collecting dues.
C. A political issues committee might be needed, especially to address the accountability of Judy Weaver to her district.

VI. Announcements – None
VII. March General Membership Meeting Agenda
A. We need to email or phone Angela with suggestions for agenda items
B. There will probably be brief committee reports, a report on the retreat, and a program
C. Heather will try to get the code enforcement officer (Tracy) to attend this meeting and provide the program

VIII. Other
A. The newsletter needs to be ready to be passed out by block captains the first of every month. Christian needs the articles before that so he can edit and format, then print. 600 copies will be distributed. There was a discussion on having more relevance to the neighborhood in the articles and perhaps including a membership form each time. This month there should be an article asking if you’ve paid your dues. We should also include a calendar of meeting dates and any other important dates for the community. Ted will contact Christian and determine the deadline for article submission.
B. Block captains. Ted explained the map showing expanded coverage by the block captains. Hopefully we will get better distribution of the newsletter with this system. Ted plans to have a block captain meeting before the distribution date.
C. Ted resurrected the idea of a Welcome Wagon. Although it was considered last year it was not implemented for many reasons. It is something we can consider if we get some more people interested in volunteering their time to put these things together.

IX. Adjourn at 3:30 PM

Respectfully submitted,
Janet Dash, OHNO Secretary
